[ARCHIVED] Heat advisory issued by National Weather Service

heat advisory

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Spring Hill on Thursday, June 13 from 1 to 8 p.m. Heat index values of 105 degrees are expected.

Heat is the country's leading cause of weather-related fatalities each year. We encourage residents to drink water, even if you don't feel thirsty, limit time outdoors, and stay in air conditioning whenever possible. If you must be outside, hydrate with water and electrolytes, wear sunscreen, and take frequent breaks.

Cooling Centers in Spring Hill are located at the Spring Hill Civic Center and the Spring Hill Library. The Civic Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On June 13, the Civic Center will be open for visitors until 8 p.m. (or until the conclusion of the City Council meeting, whichever is later). Cooling Centers are open throughout Johnson County to provide residents a place to cool off in the event that they do not have air conditioning or their air conditioning does not adequately cool the air in these extreme conditions.

Please check on those who are most vulnerable to heat including the elderly, children, and pets.

If you don't take proper precautions in extreme heat, you can experience symptoms of heat-related illness. We encourage residents to review the symptoms and appropriate responses for heat-related illnesses.
