Fireworks add excitement and spark to Fourth of July celebrations. However, it's important to enjoy them responsibly and legally. Spring Hill's municipal codes regarding fireworks are in place to protect people and property. We recommend that residents familiarize themselves with all of the codes regarding fireworks before discharging them in Spring Hill.

Below is an overview of city codes and safety reminders:

Important Dates and Times

• June 27 through July 5: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. - Fireworks can be sold in Spring Hill at permitted stands.
• July 2 through July 5: 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. - Fireworks can be lit in Spring Hill.

Legal guidelines for fireworks in Spring Hill

1. Fireworks can be lit in Spring Hill city limits from July 2 through July 5, between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m.
2. You must be over the age of 18 or be under the direct supervision of an adult to light fireworks.
3. Fireworks cannot be discharged on public property, including public parks and parking lots. They must not be discharged from within a building or vehicle.
4. At least one approved fire extinguisher must be on-site whenever fireworks are being used.
5. It's illegal to discharge fireworks while under the influence of alcohol or other substances.
6. Fireworks projectiles must be aimed vertically and should never be directed over or towards buildings or people.
7. Immediate cleanup of debris is required to maintain safety and cleanliness of our neighborhoods.

Safety tips

• Choose an open area. Choose a spacious area away from people, cars or structures. Look up to make sure you won't be shooting fireworks near tree branches or powerlines.
• Be Prepared. In addition to the required fire extinguisher, always have a bucket of water or a hose nearby.
• Fireworks should be placed on a flat, solid surface to prevent tipping.
• Do not try to light failed (dud) fireworks. 

Cleanup and disposal

• Ensure all debris is picked up right after fireworks are used to prevent it from ending up in streets or neighbors' yards.
• Soak all used fireworks, including duds, in water until they are completely saturated. It's best to leave them soaking overnight.
• Double-bag the soaked fireworks to keep them wet and keep them in a nonflammable container away from structures. On collection day, you can put soaked fireworks in your garbage bin. Fireworks waste cannot be recycled.

Consequences of violations

• Violations can result in fines up to $500.
• Violators may also be responsible for the cost of emergency response or fire-fighting efforts resulting from their actions.

Be courteous

The City allows fireworks during specific dates to give everyone a predictable window to plan for. This is appreciated by people and animals with sensitivities to the noises, flashes, or smells of fireworks. Please be courteous and only light fireworks during the allowed days and hours. 

• Keep pets indoors during fireworks.
• Leash them, even in fenced yards. Startled animals may find unexpected ways to escape, even if they’ve never tried before.
• Play music or turn on the TV to mask noise, and close blinds to block flashes.
• Ensure collars and microchips have updated contact info, and take a current photo just in case.
