The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for portions of Kansas and Missouri, including Spring Hill. The cooling center, located at the Civic Center, offers a respite from the heat for our community members.

Residents who would like to spend time in air conditioning are welcome to visit the 401 Event Space in the Civic Center, located at 401 N Madison St. The space is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This air-conditioned facility welcomes all individuals seeking relief from the heat, especially those who may not have access to adequate cooling at home. The 401 Event Space has water, Wi-Fi, television, and restrooms available to visitors.

In addition to the Civic Center, the Spring Hill Library also opens its doors as a cooling center, providing an alternate location for residents seeking relief from the heat. The library offers a comfortable and air-conditioned space for visitors to cool down while enjoying its resources and services.

It's crucial to take precautionary measures to stay safe in extreme temperatures. Remember to drink plenty of fluids, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and stay in an air-conditioned environment as much as possible. Check up on relatives, neighbors, and friends, particularly the elderly and those who may be more vulnerable to heat-related issues.

For individuals engaged in outdoor activities, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. Recognize the signs of heat exhaustion and heatstroke, and if you or someone around you experiences symptoms of heatstroke, call 911 immediately.
