Winter Weather & Wind Advisory: What Residents Should Know

City News Center Posted on March 05, 2025

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, and a High Wind Warning remains in place until 6 p.m.

Road Conditions & Safety Tips

Roads are slick in spots, and Public Works crews are currently out treating them. Please give them plenty of space to work and use extra caution if you must travel. If you need to drive:

  • Slow down and take it easy on the gas and brakes.
  • Increase following distance—icy patches may not be visible.
  • Watch for black ice, even if roads appear clear.
  • Be extra cautious on bridges and overpasses, as they can be more slippery than other roads.
  • Give semis and high-profile vehicles extra space—they are more affected by high winds.
  • Stay alert for debris—strong winds may knock down tree limbs and other objects.

Power Outages & Warming Center

Experiencing a power outage? Please report it to Evergy so they can track and respond. View Evergy's Outage Map and report an outage.

Downed power lines? Stay safe:
  1. Always assume power lines are live. Never go near a downed power line.
  2. Call 911 so emergency crews can secure the area as soon as possible.
  3. Do not go around barricades in your vehicle or on foot—they are there for your safety.

Need to warm up? The 401 Event Space at the Civic Center is open during business hours for anyone who needs a warm place to go.
