City News Center Posted on April 02, 2024

Mayor Joe Berkey signed a proclamation designating the month of April as Fair Housing Month in Spring Hill.

During the regular City Council meeting on Thursday, March 28, 2024, Mayor Berkey read the proclamation which reads, in part, "The City of Spring Hill, Kansas is committed to the mission and intent of Congress to provide fair and equal housing opportunities for all, and today, many realty companies and associations support fair housing laws."

This year marks the 56th anniversary since the passage of the Fair Housing Act, which makes discrimination in housing transactions unlawful. The proclamation states that Spring Hill is committed to Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) offers additional information regarding fair housing and takes reports of housing discrimination allegations: https://www.hud.gov/fairhousing.
