New K9 joins Spring Hill Police Department

IMG_0009

The City of Spring Hill and the Spring Hill Police Department welcome K9 Officer Loki. Loki is a two-year-old Malinois/Shepherd mix from Olesno, Poland.

He was purchased by the Olathe Police Department from a kennel in Pennsylvania. During a medical screening, it was discovered Loki had an undeveloped kidney. As a result the kennel agreed to replace Loki with another dog, however, if they took Loki back he would be put down in lieu of surgery.

That’s when Spring Hill stepped in. SHPD needed a replacement for K9 Niko, who was retiring at the end of the year, and Olathe was looking for a new home for Loki.  By all accounts Loki is a highly driven canine that will fit in well with Spring Hill's needs. Eventually Loki will have to have surgery but in the meantime, Loki is partnered with our experienced K9 handler, Officer Wipf, and is ready to go to work as our newest K9 officer.

Loki will be pinned at the Spring Hill City Council meeting on November 18.
